The briefing

SpaceX shares fell 16% Monday for a third straight losing session, leaving the average post-IPO buyer roughly flat against the June 12 debut. The same day, the company disclosed about $100.8 billion in cash and launched its first senior unsecured notes offering, with people familiar telling CNBC the target is around $20 billion. Proceeds are earmarked for retiring bridge financing and general corporate uses, including the AI capex plan the prospectus flagged. The pairing of a sharp equity retreat with a debut bond deal signals that SpaceX intends to fund Starship, Starlink and orbital compute through public capital markets.

Operationally, SpaceX opened a new business line: a Falcon 9 lifted off from Cape Canaveral at 6:53 a.m. EDT carrying Starfall, a roughly 2,100-kg saucer-shaped reentry capsule built under an FAA assessment to demonstrate point-to-point cargo delivery and return of in-space manufacturing payloads, with booster B1078 on its 29th flight. The same morning, NASA's Office of Inspector General warned Kennedy's 1960s-era pads, power and commodity lines cannot support the Starship and New Glenn pace ahead, as SpaceX plans Starship flights every eight days from Florida and the agency estimates at least $1 billion for KSC infrastructure.

Rocket Lab lofted its own Pioneer spacecraft on Electron for the Space Force's Victus Haze mission just 16 hours and 42 minutes after the notice to launch, more than ten hours faster than Firefly's 2023 Victus Nox benchmark; Pioneer will run rendezvous and proximity operations against a True Anomaly Jackal already on orbit. MDA Space detailed its $620 million all-cash acquisition of Blue Canyon Technologies from RTX as a foothold in U.S. classified defense work, and Astroscale roughly doubled project income to 11.5 billion yen as it shifts toward repeatable defense servicing missions.

SpaceX falls 16% and launches $20B debut bond offering on $100.8B cash pile

SpaceX

SpaceX shares dropped 16% Monday, extending a three-session selloff that has erased nearly all post-IPO gains for buyers who came in after the June 12 debut. The company unveiled its first senior unsecured notes offering and disclosed $100.8 billion in cash as of June 19. CNBC sources put the target raise around $20 billion, with proceeds going to retire bridge financing and fund general corporate purposes including its AI and data-center buildout.

Falcon 9 launches Starfall reentry capsule on cargo-from-orbit demo

SpaceX

SpaceX launched its first Starfall mission from Space Launch Complex 40 at 6:53 a.m. EDT, carrying a new roughly 2,100-kg saucer-shaped reentry capsule designed to return up to about 1,000 kg of cargo from low Earth orbit. Booster B1078 completed its 29th flight with a landing on A Shortfall of Gravitas. The FAA's environmental assessment authorized two Starfall reentries to demonstrate point-to-point delivery and access for in-space manufacturing, with splashdown planned in the Pacific.

Rocket Lab launches Victus Haze 16 hours after Space Force call-up

RKLB

Rocket Lab launched the Space Force's Victus Haze responsive-space mission on Electron from New Zealand 16 hours and 42 minutes after receiving the notice to launch, beating Firefly's 2023 Victus Nox record by more than ten hours. The company built the Pioneer spacecraft under a $32 million 2024 contract and is now operating it on orbit, where it will conduct rendezvous and proximity operations against a True Anomaly Jackal-0004 satellite already in low Earth orbit.

NASA IG says Kennedy infrastructure cannot support Starship pace

SpaceX

NASA's Office of Inspector General reported that Kennedy Space Center's 1960s-era launch pads, electrical distribution, water and commodity lines are aging and unable to meet planned demand from SpaceX's Starship and Blue Origin's New Glenn. SpaceX has told NASA it plans Starship launches every eight days from KSC. NASA estimates at least $1 billion is needed for KSC alone against $250 million provided in last summer's reconciliation bill, and the IG urged Congress to let NASA accept commercial contributions for infrastructure.

MDA Space details $620M Blue Canyon deal as path into classified U.S. work

MDA RTX

MDA Space CEO Mike Greenley told investors the $620 million all-cash acquisition of Blue Canyon Technologies from RTX gives the Canadian company a U.S. defense foothold and, critically, the ability to pursue classified U.S. programs as a prime. Blue Canyon is forecast to generate $160 million of revenue in 2026, with 75% from defense customers, and adds 400 employees and two Denver-area facilities. MDA expects more than 10% revenue accretion at the midpoint and $3.5 billion of added pipeline once the deal closes by year-end.

06

Astroscale doubles project income as it shifts from demos to defense missions

Astroscale reported 11.5 billion yen ($71.1 million) of project income for its fiscal year ended April 30, nearly double the prior year, while narrowing its operating loss to 10 billion yen. The Tokyo-based servicing company is guiding to 12.5 to 17 billion yen of project income for the year that began May 1 as it transitions from one-off RPO demonstrations to recurring missions, including a U.S. Space Force refueling contract and end-of-life disposal work in Japan and the U.K.
