The Canadian Space Agency awarded MDA Space a C$688 million ($483.3 million) contract to build a replenishment satellite for the Radarsat Constellation Mission on the MDA Chorus design, with parallel study contracts to C-CORE, Kepler and MDA shaping the future Radarsat+ architecture. Hours earlier, Space Systems Command moved the next two Mobile User Objective System satellites from incumbent Lockheed Martin to Boeing under a $2 billion Phase 2 contract covering development, delivery and on-orbit test, with launches no earlier than 2031 and 2032 to extend MUOS coverage to 2035.

The Missile Defense Agency issued Lockheed Martin a $35 billion undefinitized contract to quadruple THAAD interceptor output to 400 per year, executing the January framework as the Pentagon refills stockpiles. In Europe, OHB sold about 1.6 million new shares at €300 each toward a €510.7 million raise for manufacturing, M&A, and launch-vehicle work, including Rocket Factory Augsburg's European Launcher Challenge bid. Firefly Aerospace acquired Space-ng for AI vision-navigation hardware flown on Blue Ghost Mission 1, the Space Force restarted its SCAR antenna competition after canceling AeroVironment's $1.7 billion contract, and SpaceX flew its first Starfall reentry demo from Cape Canaveral.

Around the edges, NASA added Canadian hyperspectral operator Wyvern to its Commercial Satellite Data Acquisition program under a contract capped at $476 million through November 2028, York Space Systems said its Space Development Agency (SDA)-funded Dragoon satellite completed two-way UHF tactical links from low Earth orbit, and Amazon, Iridium, Telesat and Globalstar launched the SpaceConnect Association to advocate for NGSO operators on EPFD and WRC-27 spectrum issues, with SpaceX notably absent.

Boeing wins $2B MUOS contract, displacing Lockheed Martin

Space Systems Command awarded Boeing a $2 billion Phase 2 MUOS Service Life Extension contract for two new Mobile User Objective System satellites, choosing the company over original manufacturer Lockheed Martin, which built the first five. The new satellites cover development, delivery, integration and on-orbit test support, launch no earlier than 2031 and 2032, and extend the UHF narrowband constellation through 2035. Boeing and Lockheed each held $66 million Phase 1 design contracts from 2024, and the FY27 request includes $856 million in R&D for MUOS.

Lockheed lands $35B THAAD undefinitized contract to quadruple interceptor output

The Missile Defense Agency awarded Lockheed Martin a $35 billion undefinitized contract action covering up to seven years of Terminal High Altitude Area Defense interceptor production, putting the THAAD framework agreement signed in January into execution. The deal supports growing output from 96 missiles a year to 400, with work in Dallas, Sunnyvale, Troy, Alabama and Camden, Arkansas, including the newly broken-ground "Building 47" plant. The award follows a $4.7 billion PAC-3 MSE UCA in April and a separate PrSM ramp deal.

OHB raises €510M for manufacturing, M&A and launch-vehicle investments

Germany's OHB priced up to €510.7 million of new shares at €300 each, selling about 1.6 million in the first tranche for roughly €482 million with the remainder offered to minority shareholders by July 8. CEO Marco Fuchs said institutional demand was strong. Proceeds will fund production capacity, acquisitions, launch-vehicle investments including Rocket Factory Augsburg's European Launcher Challenge bid, and "future tangible projects." KKR-linked Orchid Lux separately sold up to 1.39 million existing shares for around €418 million while the Fuchs family kept control above 60%.

Firefly Aerospace acquires Space-ng for vision-navigation tech

Firefly Aerospace said it acquired Space-ng, an AI vision-navigation and autonomous-guidance company whose software flew on Blue Ghost Mission 1 and performed two hazard-avoidance maneuvers before lunar touchdown in March 2025. Firefly plans to integrate Space-ng's vision software, high-resolution cameras and onboard AI compute across its Blue Ghost landers and Elytra orbital vehicles, with applications including GPS-denied rendezvous and proximity operations.

Space Force restarts SCAR antenna competition after AeroVironment cancellation

The Space Force's Rapid Capabilities Office issued a pre-solicitation under the Satellite Communication Augmentation Resource program, seeking electronically steered phased-array antennas for the Satellite Control Network. The move formally restarts a program canceled after the government walked away from a $1.7 billion contract with AeroVironment, which had acquired original winner BlueHalo. The new Commercial Solutions Opening approach favors fixed-price production and multiple vendors.

SpaceX flies first Starfall reentry capsule demo

SpaceX launched the first test of its Starfall reentry capsule on a Falcon 9 from Cape Canaveral Space Launch Complex 40, with the company describing the spacecraft as a microgravity lab for in-space manufacturing and research. The booster landed on a droneship in the Atlantic and SpaceX confirmed payload deployment more than three hours after liftoff but withheld upper-stage telemetry, splashdown confirmation and recovery details. The FAA environmental assessment covered two Starfall test flights and described a roughly 2,100 kg vehicle capable of returning about 1,000 kg of cargo.
