OST Daily July 9, 2026 — Jeff Bezos raises about $10 billion in Blue Origin’s first outside round at a $130 billion valuation, Telesat locks in a Canadian Armed Forces Arctic connectivity deal through its Lightspeed constellation, and Venus Aerospace closes a $91 million Series B to scale its rotating detonation rocket engine

The briefing

Blue Origin is raising roughly $10 billion in its first outside funding round at a $130 billion valuation, with Jeff Bezos putting in $2 billion and Coatue Management contributing about $4 billion, per sources cited by CNBC. The round lands weeks after SpaceX's record $85.7 billion IPO and while Blue Origin is still rebuilding Launch Complex 36 after the May 28 New Glenn explosion, giving Dave Limp fresh capital to chase a return-to-flight target by year-end and to fund customer commitments to NASA, Amazon, and AST SpaceMobile.

Telesat reached an agreement in principle with Canada's Defence Investment Agency to deliver secure Military Ka-band Arctic connectivity to the Canadian Armed Forces via the Lightspeed low Earth orbit constellation, covering user terminals, ground and control infrastructure, training, and support services under the Enhanced Satellite Communications Project-Polar program. A definitive contract is expected in the coming weeks and does not shift Lightspeed's Q1 2028 global service target. Ispace separately purchased 500 kilograms of payload capacity on a SpaceX Starship lunar lander flying no earlier than 2030, pairing it with a new Mobile Cargo System rover to reposition itself as an end-to-end lunar access integrator.

Venus Aerospace closed a $91 million Series B led by Mercury Fund with Lockheed Martin Ventures participating, funding production of its rotating detonation rocket engine after last May's first US RDRE-powered test flight, with defense munitions, orbital transfer, and lunar lander applications in view. Space Systems Command added Impulse Space and Relativity Federal to National Security Space Launch Phase 3 Lane 1, bringing the qualified pool to seven under a $5.6 billion IDIQ as the Space Force diversifies away from SpaceX's Falcon 9. York Space Systems closed its acquisition of terminal maker All.Space at $300 million, down from the $355 million announced in April.
