CEO Dylan Taylor cited accelerating defense demand as the driver. Intuitive Machines closed its Goonhilly deal on the same day, paying £37 million for the UK ground-station business plus $10 million in cash for COMSAT LLC, expanding its lunar communications and ground-segment footprint as NASA delivered the NavCube3-mini navigation payload for integration onto the company's Altus-1 lunar relay satellite.

SpaceX nears deal for 130,000 acres of Louisiana marshland

SpaceX and the state of Louisiana are close to finalizing an agreement giving the company control of roughly 130,000 acres along an 18-mile stretch of coastal marshland at Pecan Island, southwest of Lafayette, according to reporting from The Times-Picayune. The site became available through a legal settlement tied to ExxonMobil pollution litigation, and Governor Jeff Landry is expected to announce it this month. Louisiana legislation passed earlier this year added aerospace liability protections and property tax breaks, and SpaceX has publicly said it needs additional Starship launch sites to reach thousands of flights per year.

Airbus and Thales Alenia Space win SpainSat NG-III replacement contract

Hisdesat contracted Airbus as prime and Thales Alenia Space as payload partner for SpainSat NG-III, replacing the SpainSat NG-II satellite declared a total loss after a space-debris strike in early 2026. Airbus Spain will build the X-band payload, whose antennas can reconfigure coverage up to 1,000 times per second, and Thales Alenia Space Spain will build the UHF and military Ka-band payloads. Launch is set for the third quarter of 2030, with service starting early 2031 alongside SpainSat NG-1 for Spanish, NATO, and allied secure communications.

Xona wins FCC spectrum approval for 250-satellite Pulsar navigation network

The FCC gave Xona Space Systems conditional authorization to broadcast Pulsar navigation signals in L-band spectrum adjacent to GPS L1 and L5 from a planned constellation of more than 250 satellites, expanding an earlier license covering only the Pulsar-0 demonstration satellite. Xona will transmit stronger, independently generated signals designed not to interfere with GPS, aviation, or other L-band services, and CEO Brian Manning said the company coordinated with US and foreign agencies to secure the approval. Xona positions Pulsar as a private complement to GPS, Galileo, BeiDou, and Glonass.

NASA delivers NavCube3-mini for Intuitive Machines' Altus-1 lunar relay

NASA delivered its NavCube3-mini navigation payload to Intuitive Machines on July 13 for integration into Altus-1, the first satellite in Intuitive Machines' planned Near Space Network Services lunar relay constellation. Weighing 3.5 pounds and drawing under 20 watts, the receiver uses Earth-based GPS and Galileo signals at lunar distances to determine precise position, and completed vibration, thermal vacuum, and electromagnetic compatibility testing at Goddard before shipment. The relay network is designed to support Artemis operations at the lunar south pole starting in 2028.
